Vacancy Announcement – Chief Executive Officer – PROTA
ICRAF/PROTA seeks to recruit a candidate for the position of Chief Executive Officer for the Network Office Africa, reporting directly to the PROTA Board Chair and closely collaborating with the PROTA Network Office in Europe. He/she shall implement the policies of the Board in close consultation with the CEO of the Network Office Europe, and shall be responsible to the PROTA Board for the operation and management of PROTA in Africa and for ensuring that its programmes in Africa are properly developed and carried out in accordance with PROTA’s mission and objectives. The activities of the Network Office Africa will substantially increase over time, as an increasing number of tasks and activities will be gradually transferred from the Network Office Europe to the Network Office Africa before the end of 2012.

Maya Nut (Brosimum alicastrum) project appears on Guatemalan TV
Las tierras del oriente de Guatemala tienen sed y sus habitantes tienen hambre. La sequia termino con la cosecha, la falta de visión y de políticas agrícolas a largo plazo no ayudo, pero no muy lejos de oriente, en el departamento del Petén, nace la esperanza y su nombre es Ramón.
El Ramón es un árbol que crece en el Petén. Es de rápido crecimiento, su follaje es excelente alimento para le ganado y de sus nueces sale una harina altamente nutritiva. Gelio Cuellar, agronomo petenero, cree fervientemente en sus bondades y cree que podrían ser aplicadas en todo el país, porque al Ramón le gusta toda Guatemala. Gelio cree que el Ramón es la respuesta, no solo a la hambruna, sino a la deforestación y el subdesarrollo económico.

African Women in Agricultural R & D (AWARD)
AWARD – investing in Africa’s future by increasing the talent pool of African women in research and development.
A two-year fellowship for fast-tracking the careers of African women scientists and professionals is at the heart of AWARD. Fellows chosen from across sub-Saharan Africa receive opportunities to strengthen their leadership and science capacities, and are paired with senior scientists in their fields who serve as their mentors.
AWARD grew from a highly successful pilot fellowship program conducted by G&D in collaboration with the Rockefeller Foundation, USAID and the Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture.
AWARD is now accepting applications for the 2009 Fellowships.
Available to women agricultural scientists from: Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia
The CGIAR Gender & Diversity Program warmly invites applications from qualified African agricultural women scientists for this innovative and exciting fellowship program.
AWARD offers specially tailored two-year career development fellowships, available at three levels: post-Bachelors, post- Masters and post-doctorate.
African women from qualifying countries and conducting research in the following disciplines are strongly encouraged to apply:
Crop sciences (including horticulture), soil sciences, animal and livestock sciences, plant and animal virology, agroforestry, agricultural economics, aquatic resources and fisheries, food sciences and nutrition, natural resource management and ecology, biodiversity conservation, entomology, agricultural extension education, molecular biology (applied to plant/animal breeding), and water and irrigation management.
